  • Antonio Rudiger helped convince Timo Werner to choose Chelsea over Liverpool
  • Rudiger high on Werner coming
  • Frank Lampard hopes Werner can help improve team as a whole

Timo Werner is imminently headed to Chelsea FC by next season, one of the big names that can hopefully help the team turn its fortunes around. Though most know that Frank Lampard went on that secret mission to Germany to personally talk to the 24-year-old striker, it appears there was someone else trying to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge: his international teammate Antonio Rudiger.

It turns out that Rudiger was in constant touch with Werner, someone he has known since Werner was 17 years old. Both were speaking a lot, especially during the lockdown, and Rudiger claims that the German striker was truly keen on moving to England. The Blues center-back just took it from there and did what he could to convince Werner to choose Chelsea over Liverpool, according to the Chelsea official website.

"We spoke a lot during the lockdown and he told me he was interested in coming to England. Of course then I did my bit, what I had to do," Rudiger said.

"I hope he adapts very quickly when he comes because as we all know this competition is different than others," he added.

Werner should address issues that Lampard is pretty upset about at the moment. Much of that was in display when the Blues faced Aston Villa. Chelsea dominated the match but had to claw back through goals by Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic. This is something that Lampard wants to be addressed moving forward, something that Werner can hopefully remedy.

As mentioned in a previous report, Lampard is anxious to get Werner onboard. The Blues coach knows that he will have to prolong his patience as the German finishes his stint with RB Leipzig. The German striker's arrival has not been spared from questions regarding what lies ahead for some players. That includes Tammy Abraham who has been starring for the Blues this season.

Lampard has already addressed that, explaining to the English striker how things will pan out. The Blues coach admits that there is a bit of a challenge tied to it. He, however, stressed that the said challenge is no different to cases where new players come in, a measure for any player to stay the course and aim for self-improvement.
