President Jonas? Breaking Down Nick Jonas' Long History Of Political Aspirations
New Jonas Brothers music? Check. Upcoming tour? Check. Nick Jonas running for political office? Maybe check.
In the midst of the Jonas Brothers' whirlwind of a comeback, one thing has certainly stood out. Recently a collection of official merchandise was released that revolved around a Vote for Nick 2040 theme. The limited time offerings include a selection of t-shirts and hoodies from the group's online shop. However, this is not the first nod that the "Jealous" singer has given a nod to the political realm.
Longtime fans of the group have been aware of his aspirations for quite some time as they have been well documented over the years.
The first time we heard Jonas reference becoming president one day was back in 2004 on CBS' "The Early Show." Jonas, then 12, was asked what he wanted to do when he grew up. His response: "Maybe I'll be president or something."
Then, in a 2008 interview, he explained the fact that some people in his life refer to him as "Mr. President." While discussing the topic, he said, "They call me the President or Mr. President, but that's only when I get in my president mode. I just act like the boss sometimes," he stated, as reported by People.
This presidential trajectory continued in a 2008 episode of "Live With Regis and Kelly" where he mentioned his desires. "I had this conversation with many people, 'Yeah, I'm going to run for president,'" the "Levels" singer said. "I think it's 2038 is when I could run."
Following that, in 2009, he told MTV News that he has a "fascination with the president." That same year, he also founded the group Nick Jonas & the Administration, which kept with the political theme. This was a solo project for the singer to explore a different musical direction outside of the Jonas Brothers.
Then, in 2011, while visiting "The View," he divulged that 2040 was the year he had decided was best to launch his campaign, explaining that he was "taking it slow."
To add to the speculation, recently Jonas' wife, "Quantico" star Priyanka Chopra, recently told The Sunday Times that she "would love for Nick to run for president." No word yet on how serious or official any of these plans or desires are, but when combined with his past comments, it does seem plausible that the Jonas brother might have his sights set on a political office of some sort in the future.
