Prince Andrew refused the promotion Queen Elizabeth II is planning ahead of his birthday to save the monarch from humiliation.
The Duke of York has decided to step down from being a working royal following the Epstein scandal that plagued him for months. Prince Andrew resigned from his royal duties, but he is still visible from time to time. He has been seen accompanying Queen Elizabeth II to church.
According to an insider, the monarch is planning to give her favorite son a promotion. But Sarah Ferguson’s husband declined it because he didn’t want his mother to face another round of humiliation due to him.
“By convention, the Duke of York would be in line for military promotion on his 60th birthday,” a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said.
“Following the decision by His Royal Highness to step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, the Duke of York has asked the Ministry of Defence if this promotion might be deferred until such time that His Royal Highness returns to public duty.”
Prince Andrew’s older brother Prince Charles became an admiral at the age of 58. Meanwhile, his older sister Princess Anne received the same honor at 62. The officials suggested that the promotion is yet to be resurrected until he clears his name after an FPI investigation.
Prince Andrew is aware that the public has some issues against him. In fact, there was an uproar over the plans to fly Union Flags on Government buildings and town halls to celebrate his birthday. Critics branded the memorandum sent to local authorities “crass and offensive.”
“The Department of Culture, Media and Sport will be advising councils that there is no requirement to fly flags on February 19 following the decision by the Duke of York to step back from public duties for the foreseeable future,” a government spokesperson said.
An email has also been sent to councils by Matt Stevenson, the private secretary to Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government secretary Dame Melanie Dawes, reminding them of the Duke of York’s upcoming birthday as a designated flag day.
Not everyone was supportive of the request. According to Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson, “When you look at his behaviour, it wouldn’t be appropriate for ust o mark his birthday.”
In related news, the public doesn’t want Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice to pick up their father Prince Andrew’s duties. The people don’t want any minor royals to step up and take on major duties. However, Prince William is reportedly willing to give bigger roles to his royal cousins.
