Prince Charles Allowed To Visit Father Prince Philip Amid Hospital’s ‘Exceptional Circumstances’ Policy
Prince Charles visited his father Prince Philip at King Edward VII’s Hospital over the weekend after the 99-year-old was hospitalized earlier this week.
On Saturday, the Prince of Wales was spotted arriving at the hospital with security and visited with his father for about a half-hour AP News reports.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, visiting policies at health facilities have been limited to lower the spread of the virus, and King Edward VII’s Hospital is no exception.
The hospital website states only certain patients would be allowed to have visitors.
“To protect our patients, we need to limit visitors to our hospital. We recommend virtual visits where possible. Visitors will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, where one visitor will be permitted to visit,” the hospital website states.
Permission for visiting is only granted “for patients with additional needs e.g. dementia, learning disabilities” or “for patients receiving end of life care.”
However, it is unclear if Prince Philip falls under one of the categories or if the royal family is the exception to the policy and allowed to visit loved ones.
The Duke of Edinburgh was “feeling unwell” and admitted to the hospital on Tuesday following his doctors’ advice.
“His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening. The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time.
“The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
Prince Philip is expected to remain in the hospital into next week.
