Prince Charles, Camilla Received Touching Wedding Reception Toast From Queen Elizabeth II
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles received a touching toast from Queen Elizabeth II during their wedding reception in 2005.
The couple, who is celebrating their anniversary on April 9, has been married for 14 years and they have also gone through a lot of things together. During their wedding reception, Her Majesty famously used a racing metaphor to refer to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall’s relationship.
“I have two important announcements to make. The first is that the Hedge hunter has won the Grand National. They have overcome Becher’s Brook and The Chair and all kinds of other terrible obstacles… They have come through, and I’m very proud and wish them well… My son is home and dry with the woman he loves,” the Queen said.
Even before they tied the knot in a civil ceremony, Prince Charles always had feelings for Camilla. In fact, they even had an affair while the future king was still married to Princess Diana.
Throughout Prince Charles and Camilla’s marriage, a lot of things have improved for the couple – including the Duke’s personality and demeanor. A royal correspondent told Vanity Fair that Camilla made a massive difference on Prince Charles, and he has become relaxed especially when his wife is around.
But several years ago, Prince Charles and Camilla faced a very different situation when she joined the royal family. Royal correspondent Rebecca English told Town & Country revealed that the couple decided to not “sell” Camilla.
“They concluded that the best way to move things forward was to just let her be herself and let people see for themselves what she is actually really like,” she said.
Several years passed and the public perception of Camilla has improved drastically. Lynn Faulds Wood, a British television personality, said that Camilla’s secret visits to charities without any publicity is one of the reasons why the public has become more drawn to her.
