KEY POINTS

  • Prince Charles was delighted to see Archie again and Lilibet for the first time when they visited him
  • The Prince of Wales, Duchess Camilla, Archie and Lilibet's meeting was "a wonderful thing"
  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are financially independent, so they paid for their trip to the U.K.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles had a great reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in the U.K. earlier this month to join the royal family for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebration. During their visit, they dropped by at the Prince of Wales' home with their kids Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1. It was the first time the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall met Prince Harry and Markle's daughter Lili because the duchess gave birth to her in California, and they had not visited Britain as a family of four before the Platinum Jubilee.

"It was a fantastic visit. The prince was delighted to see his grandson and meet his granddaughter for the first time," a royal source said before adding that it was "wonderful" to have the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back, People reported.

"The Prince and the Duchess [of Cornwall] were absolutely thrilled to see them," the source continued.

Prince Charles and Camilla had not seen Archie "for a bit of time." He was only six months old when the Sussexes left the U.K. and moved to the U.S.

The source added that the future king and queen consort had a "very special" reunion with Archie. Prince Charles got "very emotional" after meeting his granddaughter Lilibet for the first time. Overall, the reunion between Prince Charles, Camilla, Archie and Lilibet "was a wonderful thing," according to a source.

Anonymous palace insiders also shared that Prince Harry and Markle are financially independent and believed to have paid for their travel expenses.

"Great credit to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex," an unnamed royal source said. "When they decided they wanted to live overseas and forge an independent path, independent of support from the royal family, they said they wanted to transition to financial independence. And that they have achieved."

The report did not include Prince Harry and Markle's interaction with Prince Charles and Camilla. Several royal experts claimed that the Sussexes still have a strained relationship with the senior members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and Prince William.

Royal commentator and correspondent Neil Sean, who has been featured on Fox News, Access Hollywood, Sky News Australia and more outlets, said on his YouTube channel that Camilla reached out to Prince Harry and Markle to meet with them on behalf of her husband, Prince Charles, who doesn't like confrontation. The Duchess of Cornwall was reportedly "willing to meet anywhere at their discretion," according to Sean's source.

However, the royal couple reportedly rejected the invitation, so the meeting didn't happen. Sean suggested that Prince Harry's decision not to meet Camilla probably had something to do with his upcoming memoir.

"One has to suggest that perhaps Camilla could feature very heavily in Prince Harry's book," he said.

Prince Harry's "wholly truthful" memoir is expected to arrive later this year.
