Prince Charles reportedly failed at giving Princess Diana the comfort that she wanted when they were still married.

In the Amazon Prime documentary “Princess Diana: The Woman Inside,” royal biographer Andrew Morton revealed that the Princess of Wales attempted suicide, and she also suffered from bulimia, depression, and acute anxiety.

Royal editor Richard Kay seconded Morton’s claims and said that Princess Diana had some difficulties. Following the birth of Prince William, the first-time parent suffered from postnatal problems.

Princess Diana’s friend, Simone Simmons, said that Prince William’s arrival caused the late Princess of Wales’ sudden change, and Prince Charles became increasingly concerned.

“This lovely, happy-go-lucky, easy, laughing, giggling, funny girl, who made everybody else laugh, suddenly became angry, jealous, and uncooperative,” Simmons said.

Royal biographer Penny Junor said that Princess Diana also suffered from terrible mood swings, and she became unrecognizable.

“All she wanted was a big cuddle and a shoulder to cry on and, unfortunately, Charles’ upbringing precluded all of that. He didn’t know how, he really didn’t,” she said.

Prince Charles reportedly blamed himself for all of the troubles that Princess Diana faced simply because he couldn’t comfort him. The future king was raised in a strict household, and he didn’t grow up being cuddled himself.

But Simmons said that some of Princess Diana’s problems may have been dealt with by Prince Charles better. However, the heir to the throne was a very busy man. He was completely committed to his royal duties, and he didn’t have the capacity to deal with his wife.

In “Diana in Search of Herself,” by author Bedell Smith, detailed a conversation between the Prince and Princess of Wales. During one of their discussions, Prince Charles asked his wife if he said something that made her cry.

According to Smith, the couple’s emotional inadequacies should be blamed on their upbringing. Growing up, Princess Diana was tormented with feelings of emptiness and detachment. She also feared abandonment and had trouble sustaining relationships. Princess Diana also tended to keep those closest to her on tenterhooks and out of their frustration they ended up abandoning the mom of two.
