Prince Charles made an ambitious plan that no other modern royal has ever attempted to do.

In the 2012 documentary “The Royal Restoration,” Alan Titchmarsh recalled how Prince Charles borrowed $25 million from his own charitable foundation and raised funds to pay it back plus another $19 million. According to him, the Prince of Wales dedicated himself to an “ambitious” plan to regenerate the deprived areas of Scotland, the Cumnock in East Ayrshire.

“The prince has set himself a formidable challenge – to use Dumfries House to kickstart the regeneration of the entire area, creating jobs and drawing in much-needed investment, in effect, transforming the community’s economic fortunes,” Titchmarsh said.

“It’s safe to say that no modern royal has ever attempted something quite so ambitious.”

The plan focused around the old estate called Dumfries House which the prince bought back in 2007 for $56 million. He came up with the plan of renovating the house, which provided multiple sources of income for upkeep. It also offered employment opportunities to local people and attracted further investment.

Prince Charles’ project was significant because, at the time, Cumnock experienced a significant decline. A number of people left their houses to find employment opportunities somewhere else.

“We’ve got high unemployment in this area, we’ve got a high level of dependency on incapacity benefit and we’ve got a town that in the past few years has seen a significant decline with the decline of the mining industry,” Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Council Fiona Lees explained the need of Prince Charles’ project in the documentary.

He added that Prince Charles' project was two-fold because it saves the house and furniture and at the same time provides hope for the community with jobs and investment.

“It could provide a real opportunity to make a difference by using the focus for wider regeneration and opportunity, trying to raise aspirations and hope again when so much had disappeared,” he added.

In related news, there are rumors that Queen Elizabeth II would be relinquishing her power to the Prince of Wales in two years. Her Majesty will reportedly regulate the Regency Act that will make Prince Charles a king in all but name.
