Prince Charles May Be Oldest Prince Of Wales When He Becomes King
Prince Charles will most likely be the next heir in line to the British throne, but he may also be the oldest Prince of Wales to ever become King.
Amalie Henden, a journalist for Express, revealed that Prince Charles became the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history. Last year, he took the record from Edward VII, who held the Prince of Wales title for 59 years before he became King.
Prince Charles was given the official royal title Prince Wales in 1958, which means that he has had the title for 60 years. He is also known as the Duke of Cornwall and the Duke of Rothesay since 1952.
The dad of two will turn 70 next month, but it is unclear when he will take over the throne. His mom, Queen Elizabeth II, is still the reigning monarch at the age of 92. Her Majesty has no confirmed plans to retire anytime soon.
There have been rumors suggesting that the throne will go straight to Prince William, but the Duke of Cambridge reportedly has no desire to take over immediately after his grandmother’s retirement or passing.
Prince Charles will also become the oldest person to be crowned as king in British history when he succeeds his mom.
The previous record holder was William IV. He was 54 years old when he became king in 1830.
Prince Charles is also the longest-serving heir apparent, having been first in line to the throne of succession since he was 3 years old.
Meanwhile, Professor Peter Stead discussed the frustrations and achievements that Prince Charles received over the decades as Prince Wales and the future heir to the British throne.
“On royal visits, we escape from the familiarity of political debate and become aware of entrepreneurs, farmers, designers, scientists, scholars, artists, athletes, and musicians that are the essence of the new Wales. The remarkable length of Prince Charles’ formal association with his principality is one fascinating aspect of decades that have been full of both frustration and achievement,” he said.
