Prince Charles Meets With Young Crash Survivor, Mentions Prince William
Prince Charles recently had the chance to meet a 3-year-old boy named Cian, whose mom was killed in a collision in November 2016.
Cian was only 2 years old when he survived the crash. His mom, Rebecca Evans, and his unborn sister, did not make it. On Friday, Cian met Prince Charles when he officially opened the Wales Air Ambulance base in Llanelli.
The young boy also gave Prince Charles a bottle of local honey during their meet up. His dad, Alex Evans, said that his son wouldn’t be here today had it not been for the ambulance service that helped them out following the accident.
“I think what you are doing is remarkable and as a father of an ex-air ambulance pilot, I have some vague understanding of what you all do and just what high professional standards you manage to achieve,” said Prince Charles.
Prince William completed his last shift as an air ambulance pilot last year. According to The Telegraph, the 35-year-old prince joined the East Anglian Air Ambulance service in March 2015, after serving as a helicopter pilot for the RAF’s Search and Rescue Force for five years.
The prince’s first call-out was to a man who was about to take his own life. The experience inspired Prince William to focus on his mental health, as well as put up the Heads Together campaign with the help of his wife, Kate Middleton, and brother, Prince Harry.
Meanwhile, after Prince Charles met with the young boy, he also went to a children’s hospice Vale of Glamorgan. The prince had the opportunity to talk to some of the children and their parents. “I am so glad you have this place; it is remarkable,” he told one of the moms.
Ty Hafan children’s hospice was opened in 1999, and it is run by one of the United Kingdom’s leading pediatric palliative care charities. Prince Charles is a patron of the charity.
