Prince Charles’ Primary Fears Throughout His Life Caused By These 2 Royals
Prince Charles grew up with some fears hovering over his head, and they were reportedly triggered by two members of the royal family.
In the book “The Firm,” royal author Penny Junor said that the heir to the throne grew up with the specter of his relative’s abdication hovering over him. Edward VIII gave up the throne after he chose to marry the love of his life.
And as such, Prince Charles wanted to make sure that he will not follow in Edward VIII’s footsteps. To make things worse, the future King also had a close relationship with his grandmother, the Queen Mother. And as such, he was aware that the Queen Mother disliked what Edward VIII did several years ago.
“No one felt so bitter and unforgiving about his behavior, nor referred to it with more venom, than the Queen Mother. Nothing has spurred the Prince of Wales over the years quite like the terror that he might be compared with the Duke of Windsor,” Junor said.
The royal author also said that there were indeed some similarities between Prince Charles and Edward VIII. Before the latter abdicated, he was regarded as a charming and popular figure, and he was also praised for his social conscience.
And in the 70s, Prince Charles showed some signs that he could be following in Edward VIII’s footsteps. The dad of two started going out with an alarming number of women without any thought or care for anyone else.
Louis Mountbatten warned him against the path that he was about to take and said that it was very similar to what Edward VIII did before he abdicated.
“The Prince was shocked that his ‘honorary grandfather’ Mountbatten could have drawn such a devastating parallel and considered himself soundly rebuked,” Junor said.
Prince Charles eventually decided to get into a serious relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. And a few years after their split, he wed Princess Diana.
