Prince Charles Reportedly Joked About ‘Going Gay’ During Bride Discussions
Prince Charles once joked about going gay due to a shocking reason.
In the documentary “On The Queen’s Children,” presenter Jeremy Paxman discussed the turbulent love lives of Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. During his conversation with "Newsnight" presenter Broderick Munro-Wilson, the latter said that Prince Charles and Princess Anne were not shrinking violets. Years ago, multiple publications discussed potential brides for the future king, but Prince Charles remained uninterested.
“I thought the only possibility was Caroline of Monaco,” Munro-Wilson told Paxman.
He also claimed that there was one instance wherein the heir to the throne said, “Shall I go gay?” The comment reportedly left everyone who heard it laughing, but they quickly moved on.
But despite having a hard time choosing the woman he would marry, Prince Charles actually dated a handful of women other than Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles.
Royal biographer Christopher Wilson said that Prince Charles got a string of arm candy. He said that Prince Charles dated women that he wasn’t really interested in but made him look good.
In the Netflix documentary “The Royals,” it was revealed that Prince Charles proposed to Anna Wallace twice. He also dated Sabrina Guinness and Lady Amanda Knatchbull. Prince Charles was also in a relationship with Princess Diana’s older sister Lady Sarah Spencer.
During an interview in 1969, Prince Charles admitted that he was struggling to find love. “You’ve got to remember when you marry, in my position, you’re going to marry someone who perhaps one day will become Queen,” he said.
Years later, Prince Charles dated Camilla, but their relationship was cut short when the future King served in the military. Before he returned back home, he learned that Camilla was already set on marrying Andrew Parker Bowles.
Prince Charles ended up marrying Princess Diana, but their relationship didn’t last either. The two announced their separation in 1992 and finalized their divorce in 1996. One year later, Princess Diana passed away in a car crash in Paris.
