Prince Charles reportedly shared a joke that made Princess Diana smirk.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had a troubled marriage. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s royal wedding was like a fairytale, but they were very unhappy during the course of their marriage.

A video clip from thr BBC documentary "Charles: The Destiny of a Prince" featured Prince Charles and Princess Diana attending a state banquet hosted by former president Roh Moo-hyun in Seoul during their royal visit to South Korea. The heir stood and made an informal speech in front of the South Korean officials.

“I’ve come to the conclusion, it would have been far easier to have had two wives,” Prince Charles said, which made the crowd roar in laughter. However, Princess Diana only looked down and reportedly had a subtle smirk on her face.

“As Diana listens to [Charles'] speech, her face looks distraught,” the narrator added.

The People’s Princess apparently wasn’t amused by Prince Charles’ joke. Some members of the public also found it to be of extremely poor taste.

According to James Whitaker, a royal correspondent for Mirror, everything wasn’t well between Prince Charles and Princess Diana during their trip to South Korea. The couple was reportedly told to present an image of a loving couple for the trip, but they couldn’t bear to be near each other. They were ignoring one another and couldn’t even look each other in the eye.

The four-day trip, which was supposed to show the world that the Prince and Princess of Wales’ relationship was fine after months of speculations about their troubled marriage, only confirmed the rumors that their relationship had hit rock bottom.

A month after the trip, Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s split was announced. Those who saw the couple during their South Korea trip weren’t surprised at all.

However, despite their breakup, Princess Diana reportedly remained in love with Prince Charles. In fact, she was desperate for a reconciliation. The Princess of Wales wanted her marriage with Prince Charles to work for the sake of their two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Unfortunately, she never had the chance to do it because Camilla Parker Bowles never left Prince Charles’ side.
