Prince Charles vs. Prince Andrew: Duke Better Than Prince Of Wales?

Prince Charles and Prince Andrew were never close.

The Prince of Wales and Duke of York have a huge age gap, which explains why they were never close as siblings. In addition, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew have different approaches to life.

According to Matthew Kirkham, a journalist for Express, there was jealousy between the two brothers. Prince Charles is the future king and tends to receive more attention from their family and the media.

However, Prince Andrew is better than his older brother in some areas. In Nicholas Davis’ book “Elizabeth II: Behind Palace Doors,” he described the Duke of York as a macho and good-looking Windsor. He added that Prince Andrew was the “British equivalent of Hollywood hunk.”

In addition, the “Prince Andrew: The Documentary” narrates how the duke was very keen on the military discipline and flying. These qualities made Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband more appealing.

“He [Prince Andrew] does seem very happy in male company, he is obviously one of the lads in the navy,” royal biographer Anthony Holden said. “Much more than Charles,” he added.

Holden said that the Prince of Wales was a bit of a “misfit” in the navy. As a dad, Prince Andrew was also more hands-on than Prince Charles.

Several reports claimed that the future king has a somewhat “tricky” relationship with his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, due to her affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex were very close to their mom, Princess Diana. Aside from this, he was too busy with his royal duties.

“Charles has always been quite a remote figure, he has always been consumed by work,” royal author Penny Junor said about the heir.

Junor added that Prince Charles always made sure that his sons had been well looked after. However, they were really not as close as they might have been.

On the other hand, Prince Andrew was very close to his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. In one post on social media, Princess Eugenie opened up about her loving family and called Prince Andrew her “rock.”

Also, Prince Andrew is not shy to demand things for his daughters. There was reportedly a time that he asked the Queen to make Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie full-time royals, so they would be paid from the public purse. He also demanded that ABC air Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding. Unfortunately, both of the requests were denied.
