Prince Charles Won’t Need This Travel Item Anymore When He Becomes King
Prince Charles no longer has to travel with his passport when he becomes king.
In the United Kingdom, passports are issued in the name of the monarch. This means that they are currently given by Queen Elizabeth II. Since she is the head of the state, the Queen doesn’t travel with her passport.
“Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary,” the statement on the British passport read.
When Prince Charles takes over the throne, he will no longer need to travel with the document. However, Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, still cannot travel without her passport.
Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, said that even though Prince Charles no longer needs his passport when traveling, he might still be asked some questions whenever he flies in and out of the country. These can include questions about his age and address for security purposes.
In related news, Prince Charles is known as one of the royals that go all out during his trips. It was revealed that he spent over $1.5 million on his travels last year. He also travels via his private jet. His most expensive tour was of India, Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore.
Prince Charles’ sons, Prince William and Prince Harry are not like him because the siblings get to travel on commercial flights. In fact, Prince Harry has also traveled with Meghan Markle on a commercial flight.
In 2015, Prince William flew by Ryanair to Scotland, and an eyewitness said that it was refreshing to see a member of the royal family taking a cheap flight. Prince William was joined by his bodyguard at that time. In 2011, he also traveled on economy class with Kate Middleton.
