Prince George Gets To Do This Thing Princes William, Harry Didn’t
He’s still a young boy and won’t really know the implications of what his life will one day hold, and since he may not yet know he’s going to one day be King, Prince George appears to be getting to indulge in small privileges as a kid that both his father and uncle did not have.
Following the release of his 6th birthday portraits, taken by his mother, Kate Middleton, Pod Save The Queen podcast hosts Ann Gripper, Russell Myers and Amber Graafland discussed the fact that in his photos, the young Prince was seen wearing a football shirt.
“I thought it was interesting that he was wearing the England football shirt,” Gripper said during a recent episode.
“It’s not what we’re used to seeing the royals wearing, let’s be honest,” Graafland added.
The hosts went on to discuss that particular jersey he wore as well, and they aren’t the only ones who have remarked on the article of clothing. In fact, royal expert Phil Dampier previously revealed to Express UK that it was a nice touch for him to wear the shirt, mainly because it showed his parents’ commitment to letting him have as normal a life as possible.
“The football shirt is a nice touch because it portrays George like any other youngster, be they from a council estate or a Palace,” he said. “William and Kate want George and their other children to grow up not feeling royal or special but just normal.”
“It was quite a shock to William when he was a boy to discover his future was mapped out as King, and I’m not sure he has ever fully come to terms with it, at least not until recently,” he added. “He wants George to grow up care-free as he will have plenty of responsibility later on.”
The shock of Prince George wearing the casual shirt for his birthday is likely because while he has been given this opportunity, he is among the first generation of royals who has that privilege. Notably, Prince William and Prince Harry were often pictured as young boys in more formal attire, and very rarely were even spotted in more casual clothing, let alone sports outfits.
