Prince Harry Changed His Mind About Wanting To Become King, Replace William
Prince Harry reportedly said that he wanted to become King if Prince William doesn’t want the role. However, his mindset about leading the monarchy has changed in recent years.
During his interview with Newsweek magazine two years ago, the Duke of Sussex said that even though he is very much involved in modernizing the monarchy, no one in the royal family wants to be King or Queen. However, he is conscious of the ability of his status to make a difference in the world.
“I feel there is just a smallish window when people are interested in me before William’s children Prince George and Princess Charlotte take over, and I’ve got to make the most of it,” he said.
But when Prince Harry was much younger, he was vocal about wanting to become King. Journalist and quizmaster Jeremy Paxman told the Sun that he had a conversation with Princess Diana in 1996 just before she died. They talked about their children, and Princess Diana said that Prince William oftentimes said that he didn’t want to be King.
“We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be King, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job, I’ll have it!’” Paxman said.
It is unclear if Prince Harry said this in a joking manner, but things have most likely changed for the Duke of Sussex. Something else is about to change for the now married royal because he will soon become a father. His wife, Meghan Markle, is scheduled to give birth in the Spring.
During her engagement in Birkenhead, the “Suits” alum told royal fans that her due date is sometime at the end of April. She also said that she and Prince Harry have decided to know their baby’s gender beforehand. Details about their firstborn will be revealed by Kensington Palace after its birth.
