Prince Harry Committed This Mistake During Meeting With Malala Yousafzai Years Ago
Prince Harry reportedly committed a huge mistake when he met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai in 2014.
The Duke of Sussex met with Yousafzai after they were introduced by Craig Kielburger, the co-founder of We Day, while at the Wembley Arena. After they were introduced to each other, Prince Harry and Yousafzai posed for a photograph.
Prince Harry wrapped his arm around Yousafzai, and the latter’s mom saw the gesture. Yousafzai’s mom called Prince Harry’s attention and told him that he can only touch her daughter if he will marry her.
Craig recounted the incident with Hello! Magazine and said, “Prince Harry put his arm around Malala for a photo and very loudly in the corner Malala’s mother in Urdu shouts, ‘No, no, no,’ which translated to, ‘Not unless you marry her can you touch her.’ The prince was so red in his face at that moment and he was clasping his hands in the front. Malala was so embarrassed.”
After the incident, Prince Harry and Yousafzai posed for another photograph together, and he confidently said that he wasn’t touching her.
“Every young woman’s dream, and I don’t think the Prince had ever been told that he can’t put his arm around someone,” Craig said.
Yousafzai was a Pakistani schoolgirl who survived being shot by the Taliban while advocating for the education of women. During the event four years ago, Prince Harry emphasized the importance for young people to volunteer in different causes.
“If each of you could get just one more friend to help someone else, you will have started changing the lives of 20,000 people. Some people don’t think it’s cool to help others; personally, I think it’s the coolest thing in the world!” he said (via Daily Mail).
Yousafzai is currently enrolled at Lady Margaret Hall at Oxford University, and she’s taking up a course in philosophy, politics, and economics. She started her degree in October 2017.
