Prince Harry joked about getting old during a video call, prompting his wife Meghan Markle to react.

On July 1, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a 20-minute video chat with the young leaders from the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust to discuss the Black Lives Matter movement. They were discussing racial biases and how the next generation can make a difference when Prince Harry made a surprising remark.

“I’m aging. I’m 35,” the duke was quoted by Us Weekly, as saying.

“That’s not aging,” Markle reacted before laughing.

During the video call, Prince Harry also spoke about how the peope are programmed to see the world. Markle also shared how racism and unconscious bias continue to thrive.

“We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been educated to see the world differently,” Prince Harry said during the video chat.

“However, once you start to realize that there is that bias there, then you need to acknowledge it, you need to do the work to become more aware … so that you can help stand up for something that is so wrong and should not be acceptable in our society today.”

“It’s not just in the big moments, it’s in the quiet moments where racism and unconscious bias lies and thrives. It makes it confusing for a lot of people to understand the role that they play in that — both passively and actively,” Markle added.

Prince Harry also talked about the Commonwealth’s history and said that it “must be acknowledged” even if it is “uncomfortable.”

Many used his statement against him. Arthur Edwards, a royal veteran photographer, found the duke’s statement insulting to the Queen.

“Prince Harry is entitled to his views. But in criticising the Commonwealth – the organisation closest to his grandmother’s heart – he has simply lost the plot,” Edwards said.

“To criticise the one thing the Queen cherishes above all things, which is preserving the Commonwealth, is an insult to her — no matter what the palace may say officially.”

Ex-Royal Irish Regiment soldier Trevor Coult also felt the same. He said that Prince Harry’s comments were “disgusting” and he’s glad the Sussexes already left the U.K.

Prince Harry and Markle decided to step back from their royal roles in January. At present, they are residing in Los Angeles and they have already continued their work for the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
