Prince Harry, Kacey Musgraves’ High-Five Got Singer In Trouble: ‘I Didn’t Know’
Prince Harry and Kacey Musgraves’ high-five got the latter in trouble.
The Grammy winner had a chance encounter with Prince Harry at the Royal Variety Performance in 2015. The country star was so overwhelmed that she accidentally broke royal protocol on how one should greet a royal.
Prince Harry and Musgraves gave each other a high-five when they met. They were even photographed laughing while holding each other’s hand following the high-five. But after the incident, the singer and songwriter was told off due to her actions.
“Apparently afterwards, the guy that works at the label was like, ‘No, no, no,’” Musgraves told Access Hollywood on Wednesday. “He was like, ‘I can’t believe you gave him a high-five. That’s just unbelievable.’ He’s like, ‘No, there’s a way to address the royal family, and a high-five, going up top is not the way.’”
Musgraves admitted that she was not aware of the blunder she did, especially since the prince seemed unfazed by the casual greeting. In addition, she felt that there was no issue because the duke also “went for it.“
Musgraves also issued a statement about the same encounter during her interview with BBC last year. The artist admitted she was not informed and was not knowledgeable about the protocol when meeting a royal.
“Okay, so I’m from Texas. I haven’t read the manual on royal etiquette. I didn’t really go to elocution lessons or anything,” Musgraves said about her encounter with Prince Harry. “He came up and he just seemed super friendly, and I put my hand up and he went for it. We had a laugh. And later, when I came back, the label was like, ‘Oh, you shouldn’t have done that.’ That was kind of a no-no.”
In related news, Prince Harry joked about his son’s ginger hair. The Duke of Sussex revealed that he and Markle took Archie to a nursery. According to Prince William’s brother, his baby was particularly taken by other two red-haired babies and even remarked “Gingers stick together!”
Archie’s ginger red hair has only fueled the rumors that Prince Harry’s biological father is James Hewitt because they share the same hair color. However, according to several sources, Prince Harry actually inherited his red hair from the Spencers.
