Prince Harry Launches New Project To Tackle Knife Crime Epidemic Among Youth
Prince Harry recently expressed his commitment to tackling the knife crime epidemic among the youth.
Later this year, the 33-year-old prince is expected to launch a new scheme that will be focused on fighting knife crime. He has asked the staff at the royal foundation to look into the key causes behind the increasing number of violent acts carried out by youngsters in the United Kingdom.
The heads of his staff, as well as though spearheading various charities, are expected to report back to the prince as soon as possible.
Prince Harry’s desire to lessen lower the crime rate involving knives came after the number of recorded offenses reached an all-time high. As of last March, there have already been 40,147 offenses involving a knife and a sharp object. This figure has a 16 percent increase from the previous year.
In London alone, at least 51 people have been stabbed since January, and over 1,000 incidences have been recorded by the Met Police from January until April of this year.
In related news, this is not the first time that Prince Harry has set his sights on tackling violence and gangs in Nottingham. Earlier this year, he spoke at the Royal Foundation Forum and said, “At the back end of last year, knife crime skyrocketed. I spoke to some of the people at the Royal Foundation and said right, knife crime, let’s look into it. But in reality knife crime is a symptom of a cause. So therefore go and speak to young people, which is what they’re doing.”
“Speak to those communities and listen to what they think the problems are and then rewind it all the way back to go to what is the root cause of all of this,” he added.
Keith Millsm, the chairman of the royal charity, also confirmed that this year’s programs will see new projects centered on knife crimes, conservation, expansion of the coach core, among many other things.
Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, on the other hand, will focus on female empowerment as part of her role in the foundation and the British royal family.
