Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Anniversary: Why Kate Middleton Wasn't A Bridesmaid At Wedding

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just celebrated their second wedding anniversary, but many people are still left clueless on why Kate Middleton wasn’t a bridesmaid at the historic event.

The couple tied the knot on May 19, 2018 in a star-studded wedding that saw Elton John, Serena Williams, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, and Amal Alamuddin as guests. Prince Harry’s best man was his older brother, Prince William.

The Duke of Cambridge’s wife, Middleton, wasn’t a part of the entourage, further strengthening feud rumors between her and Markle. Speculations have it that the two women didn’t get along pretty well even before the wedding, Express reported.

However, Markle didn’t snub Middleton when the latter wasn’t chosen to be a bridesmaid because it was in line with a royal protocol.

“Most royal brides do not have adult bridesmaids. It would be unusual for a royal bride to have a woman in her late 30s as a maid or matron of honor,” royal expert Marlene Koenig told Town and Country.

Middleton and Markle’s feud, along with their alleged husbands’ rift, has long been rumored. According to a palace insider as reported by Daily Mail, the former “Suits” actress and the Duchess of Cambridge were fine at the start but tension eventually grew between the couples.

Apparently, the beef allegedly stemmed from the fact that Markle isn’t going to be a queen because Prince Harry falls behind Prince William and Middleton’s children Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte as a successor.

“ Being a royal goes to everyone's head eventually — and after a while, William and Harry would meet without their wives in tow to avoid rows and stony silences,” the source divulged.

Because of the fight, the Sussexes decided to move to Frogmore Cottage and leave Kensington Palace. This was prompted when Markle allegedly shouted at the staff of Middleton, who was reportedly left horrified by the incident.

For Middleton and Prince William’s wedding in 2011, Prince William was the best man and the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa, was the maid of honor. It is worth noting, however, that the 38-year-old wasn’t a bridesmaid for her sibling’s nuptials in 2017.
