  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted at Jack Johnson's concert in California Wednesday night
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex watched the show from a special section cordoned off from the masses
  • Prince Harry was seen standing behind Markle and wrapping his arm around her waist

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out for a date night in California Wednesday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex packed on the PDA while watching Jack Johnson's concert at Santa Barbara Bowl.

In photos obtained by TMZ, the royal couple watched the show with 10 other people from a special section in the outdoor venue that was cordoned off from the masses.

During the concert, Prince Harry and Markle cut loose and were seen dancing, swaying to the music and even singing along with Johnson. The pair was visibly familiar with Johnson's hits, according to the outlet.

At one point, Prince Harry was seen standing behind his wife with an arm around her waist. The Sussexes also appeared friendly with the small group in their section as they were seen chatting with them.

Drummer Adam Topol later shared on Instagram a photo with the couple. In the snap, Prince Harry and Markle smiled at the camera while posing alongside members of the band.

"Harry and Meghan in the house!" Topol wrote in the caption.

The couple's night out came weeks after Prince Harry and Markle went to the United Kingdom in early September for speaking engagements for charities close to their hearts. They extended their stay in England following his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's death on Sept. 8.

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines after their pal Misan Harriman shared snaps of the royal couple from the One Young World Summit, which they attended in Manchester, England, on Sept. 5.

The photos came just two days after Buckingham Palace released a new portrait of the senior royals, King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Some royal experts have claimed that Prince Harry and Markle were sending a message to the palace with the release of their portraits.

"I just [think they] did [share the photo] in competition with the main royal family," British journalist and royal author Angela Levin told Dan Wootton on GB News of Prince Harry and Markle. "They just want to squash it down in any way they can, and it seems they can't bear it if they've got publicity and they have to do better or they don't do better. [But] they couldn't do better. It was an amazing picture and there is a whole new life now that's going to happen."

Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nicholl, author of the new royal book "The New Royals," told Entertainment Tonight that the timing of the release of the Sussexes' photos was notable and "quite polarizing" because it was posted just days after the palace shared the portrait of the new "Fab Four."

It also gave the impression that Prince Harry and Markle were trying to say that "anything you can do we can do too," the royal expert suggested.

"It said, 'This is the future of the monarchy,'" Nicholl said of the senior royals' photo. "Of course, so notable by their absence, [were] Harry and Meghan. So it didn't surprise me to see an image of them so soon after. But it was a pretty bold move, as sort of a reminder that actually there is this alternative royal court across the pond."
