Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are putting on new hats after leaving their posts as senior royals and moving to California.

This time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are producing a new animated series called "Pearl" for Netflix that combines history with fantasy, the couple’s production house, Archewell Productions, announced Wednesday.

Markle will serve as the animated series’ executive producer alongside Canadian filmmaker, David Furnish, 58, who is best known for his 2019 project, "Rocketman," based on the life and music of Elton John.

"Pearl" will tell the story of a 12-year-old girl who makes a journey of self-discovery inspired by historical female figures.

"Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges," Markle said in a statement cited by Vanity Fair.

"I'm thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today," she added.

Furnish, the husband of Harry and Meghan’s close friend, Elton John, expressed his excitement over the new project.

"Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, and I are deeply passionate about bringing the inspirational and positive stories of extraordinary women from around the world to a global audience of all ages. The team collaborating on the series are first class, and Netflix are the perfect partner," he said.

Aside from Furnish, Markle will also work with other executive producers for "Pearl," including Carolyn Soper, Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan, and Amanda Rynda, US magazine reported.

"Pearl" is the first animated series for Archewell Productions after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce a wide variety of content including feature films, children’s programs, documentaries and docuseries, according to Vanity Fair.

"Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope," the couple said in September 2020 after inking the deal with Netflix.

Archewell Productions also announced in April that it is developing a docuseries, "Heart of Invictus," in partnership with The Invictus Games Foundation. The docuseries is helmed by Prince Harry and will tell stories of resilience and hope from participants who are preparing for the Invictus Games at The Hague which is set to take place in 2022, US magazine noted.

Markle previously authored a picture book, The Bench, for children which went on to become a New York Times bestseller.
