Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Baby May Be ‘Named’ Victoria Or Albert
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may choose to name their baby girl Victoria and baby boy Albert due to a poignant reason.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, told Express that the current 8-1 odds for Victoria by bookmaker Coral isn’t surprising. This is because the rehabilitation of Queen Victoria has been remarkable especially in recent years.
“Her image had previously been grim and puritanical and the Victorian era was linked to social evils and imperialism. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was part of this as there was a resurgence of interest in Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and in this truly remarkable monarch,” he said.
Fitzwilliams also said that the BBC television series starring Jenna Coleman, Dame Judi Dench, as well as the series “Victoria and Albert” starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Fried was also pivotal. The series made viewers realize that the marriage between Victoria and Albert is one of history’s greatest royal romances.
“If they were to name the baby after either of them, and the odds currently seem to favor it, Harry and Meghan would be paying tribute to this as well as the foundations this devoted couple laid for today’s monarchy,” he said.
Fitzwilliam added that when Queen Victoria sat on the throne, the institution was far from being popular after the excesses and wayward personal lives of the members of the royal family. But she and Albert changed its image and became one of the reasons it has become a potent symbol of national unity today.
Other popular baby names for Prince Harry and Markle’s firstborn include Philip and Diana with an odds of 10-1, Alice and Arthur with 12-1, and Alfred at 16-1. Markle’s mom’s Doria Ragland is also being linked to a possible baby name for a girl with an odd of 50-1.
Coral spokesperson Harry Aikenhead said that it won’t be long now before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby is born and the infant’s gender and name will be revealed minutes after its birth.
“The name is always a popular thing for punters to bet on,” he said.
