Prince Harry, Meghan Want To Delay Netflix Show, Memoir To Edit Content About Senior Royals: Report
KEY POINTS
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly want to edit his memoir and their Netflix docuseries
- They reportedly plan to remove or downplay much of what they said about King Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton
- The edits could push back the docuseries' release till later in 2023
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to push back two big projects to take another look at them following Queen Elizabeth II's death, a report has claimed.
The docuseries the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been working on was expected to air before 2022 ends, with Netflix chiefs — who have not yet officially announced the project — hoping to release the docuseries in December after "The Crown" Season 5, according to Page Six.
However, the outlet suggested in a new report, citing unnamed insiders, that the docuseries may not air until later in 2023 as the royal couple reportedly wants to edit its content.
The release of Prince Harry's memoir has already been delayed to sometime next year, according to the outlet. It was originally scheduled to be published by Penguin Random House in November.
Prince Harry and Markle were part of the usual editing process on both the docuseries and the book before Queen Elizabeth passed away on Sept. 8. However, following the monarch's death, the couple now wants to remove or downplay most of what they have said about King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and his wife Kate, the new Princess of Wales, unnamed sources told Page Six. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.
"A lot of conversations are happening. I hear that Harry and Meghan want the series to be held until next year, they want to stall," an unnamed Hollywood industry source told Page Six.
"I wonder if the show could even be dead in the water at this point, do Harry and Meghan just want to shelve this thing?" the source added.
A "highly-placed" Netflix insider, who was also not named, told the outlet that "there's a lot of pressure on (Netflix CEO) Ted Sarandos, who has the relationship with Harry and Meghan, to get this show finished" as other execs want the docuseries to be out by December.
Reps for Netflix and Prince Harry and Markle were unavailable for comment, according to Page Six.
Several royal experts have speculated that King Charles will hold off giving Prince Harry and Markle's children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, prince and princess titles until the couple's media projects are out.
The new monarch's alleged indecision over Archie and Lilibet's titles is "heightening tensions" between him and the California-based couple, The Times U.K. royal editor Roya Nikkhah previously reported.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are "understood to fear" that Prince Harry's father may strip their kids of their titles, Nikkhah claimed.
