Prince Harry Net Worth: Duke Will Still Get $2.5 Million Yearly Despite 'Megxit'
KEY POINTS
- Prince Harry has stepped down from royal duties earlier this year
- He will still get $2.5 million annually from Duchy of Cornwall
- He and wife Meghan Markle did not sign a prenuptial agreement before their wedding
Prince Harry’s net worth is around $25 million and he will still get additional $2.5 million annually despite stepping down from senior royal duties this year.
The Duke of Sussex will not have the privileges he enjoyed prior to announcing his decision with wife Meghan Markle. The two can still enjoy being Duke and Duchess of Sussex but they are going to lose the HRH title and some monetary incentives that come with it. The couple is focused on being financially independent and with their combined net worth, it could make the transition easier.
Prince Harry’s net worth is around $30 million. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, has a net worth of around $5 million, thanks to her acting career before meeting her husband. The youngest son of Princess Diana inherited a substantial amount of money from his mother and grandmother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Princess Diana left Harry and Prince William $10 million, of which $450,000 will be given each of them after turning 25 until 30 years old. The Queen Mother, mother of Queen Elizabeth II, also left £14 million to the two lads.
Prince Charles is also giving his two sons allowances that fetch up to $2.5 million. The money comes from a private estate called the Duchy of Cornwall, noted Business Insider. This is where the royal family gets their funds for travel and clothing. The Duchy of Cornwall has been supplying the funds for 700 years and counting.
Many have probably forgotten that Prince Harry served in the British Royal Air Force before. His stint there as a helicopter pilot lasted a decade, which means he earned anything from $50,000 and $53,000, per year. Prince William, on the other hand, earned $68,000 to $74,000 from serving as flight lieutenant for the Royal Air Force, per Towns & Country.
The decision of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to step down from their royal duties, also known as "Megxit", has shocked many. The couple got married in 2018 and welcomed their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May last year. The two agreed to combine their finances instead of signing a prenuptial agreement. This originally posed some challenges as Markle is an American and should she become a citizen of the U.S. and U.K., she must continue paying taxes to IRS.
