Prince Harry Never Did This Gesture Before Meeting Meghan Markle, Expert Claims
Prince Harry has changed in some ways since meeting Meghan Markle years ago.
Body language expert Judi James revealed on the "Pod Save the Queen" podcast that Prince Harry developed a mannerism since he started dating Markle.
“It’s interesting watching him, in particular on the wedding day. This guy normally would be the one showing off a bit and joking around at other people’s weddings… He did, I think it was 12 self-touches within a few steps when he got out of the car,” she said.
Those touches, according to James, are a kind of gesticulation that is seen among Windsor men but not with Prince Harry. Self-touches are known as tiny signals that help soothe anxiety and insecurity.
James said that Prince Harry most likely did the gestures several times because as a royal, he is not allowed to fold his arms in public. Last year’s royal wedding may have been a stressful time for the Duke of Sussex.
Meanwhile, the body language expert said that Prince Harry is not the only member of the royal family who engaged in self-touches in public.
“The males, in particular, have all these ritual self-touches. I think everybody’s seen Prince Charles when he fiddles with his watch strap or his cuff… He does three or four little movements in a ritual. Charles’ grandfather did exactly the same rituals,” she said.
According to James, Prince William is more like Prince Charles because he normally clutches his hands in front of his torso while in public. Prince Harry, on the other hand, didn’t do this until he met Markle.
Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The couple’s union was followed with a lunch reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.
An evening reception was also held for some of Markle and Prince Harry’s closest family and friends, and it was hosted by Prince Charles.
