Prince Harry is getting candid about how he really feels about Queen Consort Camilla.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, sat down with Anderson Cooper in an interview for "60 Minutes" Sunday to discuss Harry's memoir "Spare."
Prince Harry revealed that after their mother Princess Diana's death, he and his brother Prince William asked their father not to marry Camilla, the woman he had an affair with off and on for decades.
Camilla was portrayed by the tabloids as "the villain," Harry told Cooper. "She was the third person in their marriage. She needed to rehabilitate her image."
Cooper mentioned that Prince Harry wrote in his book that Camilla started a campaign in the British press to pave the way for marriage to Charles after Princess Diana's death.
Quoting "Spare," Cooper said, "I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she'd be less dangerous if she was happy."
Prince Harry explained that "the need for her to rehabilitate her image" made Camilla "dangerous."
"That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press. And there was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen Consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that," Prince Harry claimed.
Prince Harry alleged that over the years, he became one of those people. In his book, he accused his father and stepmother of using him and Prince William for better tabloid coverage. He even wrote that Camilla "sacrificed me on her personal PR altar."
"If you are led to believe, as a member of the family, that being on the front page, having positive headlines, positive stories written about you, is going to improve your reputation or increase the chances of you being accepted as monarch by the British public, then that's what you're going to do," Prince Harry told Cooper.
Despite asking their father not to marry Camila, Harry said that he and William eventually conceded to the wedding because they "wanted him to be happy and saw how happy he was with her."
Camilla married then-Prince Charles in 2005, eight years after the death of his first wife, Diana. The two had been involved romantically on and off for decades, and Diana had once famously referred to Camilla as the third person in their marriage.
Prince Harry also mentioned the Queen Consort while discussing in his book how he helped his wife, Meghan Markle, prepare for her first meeting with King Charles.
The Duke of Sussex briefed Markle to give his father a kiss if he "leans in" and a handshake if he doesn't. He also told the former "Suits" star that she didn't need to curtsy to Camilla, leaving Markle surprised.
"You sure?" she reportedly asked. "I didn't think it appropriate," Prince Harry explained in his memoir.
"Spare" will hit shelves Tuesday.
