Prince Harry’s Multimillion Fortune ‘Raided’ By US Taxman Because Of Meghan Markle
Prince Harry’s multimillion fortune may reportedly be raided by U.S. taxmen due to his wife Meghan Markle.
Abe Hawken, a journalist for The Sun, claimed that since Markle is an American citizen, she still needs to pay taxes in the United States. But since she’s married to Prince Harry, the latter’s income could also be liable for the tax.
U.S. tax inspectors also have the right to scrutinize Prince Charles’ private wealth, as well as Queen Elizabeth II’s money, because the two royals provide support and funding for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Markle also has to pay taxes in her home country on all income available to her, which means she needs to pay a certain amount for her jewelry, travel expenses, and royal accommodation. The royal family has reportedly become so concerned about the issue that they have sought advice from a financial consultancy firm in the United States.
Royal aides are apparently also worried about the British clan incurring a huge tax bill all because of the “Suits” alum.
“We’re looking at a level of financial exposure the royal family has never had to face before. It’s the royal household’s worst nightmare,” a royal aide said.
Guidance notes to US citizens like Meghan state, “You are generally taxed on income available to you, regardless of whether it is in your possession.”
This means that Markle’s jewelry designers and outfit makers may also be taxed. The couple’s Nottingham Cottage property will also be looked into by US taxmen.
“Everything has to be declared. That means a level of financial openness and scrutiny the royal family is not used to. There is a very comfortable relationship between the Palace and the HMRC where the Royal Family volunteers to pay some tax and the taxman is very grateful,” an aide told Express.
At present, Markle is on a Leave to Remain visa, an immigration status granted to a person who does not hold right of abode in the United Kingdom, but who has been admitted to the country without any time limit. She is also free to take up employment or study during the duration of her stay.
