Prince Harry’s ‘Self-Comfort Ritual,’ ‘Denial Gestures’ Reveal More About His Relationship With William
Prince Harry recently opened up about his relationship with Prince William during his interview with Tom Bradby for ITV. The Duke of Sussex said that he and his older brother have not been hanging out as much as they used to.
While speaking with The Sun, body language expert Judi James analyzed Prince Harry’s body language while he was talking about Prince William. She said that it seemed as though the Duke of Sussex was close to tears when he started talking about the Duke of Cambridge.
“His first body language reaction is to laugh though, tipping his head back before we get the long pause and an elongated ‘Um....’ His gently rocking torso looks like a self-comfort ritual but he combines it with some denial gestures like a single shoulder-shrug and then two double shoulder-shrugs as he says ‘Stuff happens,’” James said.
But Prince Harry also smiled while saying that he and Prince William will always be brothers and they will always love each other. James said that this was a wonderful sign that even though the royal siblings are on different paths, humor is still what binds them to each other.
“When a rift is causing anger or resentment it will usually show in the facial expression but Harry’s spontaneous response plus the subtle warmth of some of his smiles as he speaks about William makes his comment ‘I love him dearly’ ring true. The way he splayed his legs and stuffed his hands into his pockets did hint of some stubbornness but it would be good to see the two men getting back to their life-long close and supportive relationship right now when Harry is looking especially vulnerable,” she said.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s alleged falling out started after the former tied the knot with Meghan Markle. Shortly after, rumors of an alleged feud circulated and they worsened after Prince Harry and Markle announced that they will no longer be a part of the Royal Foundation.
