Prince Philip Skipped Remembrance Sunday Again, Left Queen Elizabeth With Camilla, Kate
Prince Philip skipped Remembrance Sunday again and left Queen Elizabeth II with Camilla Parker Bowles and Kate Middleton.
The Duke of Edinburgh was noticeably absent on Remembrance Sunday. According to Express, this is the second Remembrance Sunday in a row that Prince Philip was absent from the ceremony. It should be noted that he missed several ceremonies over the years.
According to the publication, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband also didn’t attend the Remembrance Sunday ceremonies in 1956, 1964, 1968 and in 1999. Overall, Prince Philip missed six Remembrance Sunday ceremonies.
When Prince Philip is around, he usually joins the Queen on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office building. Last year and this year, Queen Elizabeth II was joined by the Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Cambridge.
Since Prince Philip retired from his royal duties and public life in 2017, he was not seen as often as before. Also, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh no longer live together in Buckingham Palace.
According to a source, Prince Philip enjoys Wood Farm and he and his wife only see each other at some point in the week or weekends. Prince Charles’ father usually spends his time at Windsor Castle and only visits Buckingham Palace. Despite living separately, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip always make it a point to see each other as much as possible. Royal editor Charlie Proctor confirmed this.
“Unlike most married couples, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh often live miles apart, with Prince Philip spending hardly any time at Buckingham Palace these days,” Proctor wrote.
Queen Elizabeth II reportedly allowed Prince Philip to live away from the public’s prying eye because her husband deserves a “proper retirement.” The monarch understands that if Prince Philip stays at Buckingham Palace, he will be obliged to get involved in different royal engagements. However, if he stays in Wood Farm, he is not too far away but distant enough to be able to relax.
