Prince Philip’s unique role within the royal family is now being taken over by the younger generation.

When the Duke of Edinburgh was much younger, he used to flip burgers at the family barbecue. But this past summer, his grandson, James, Viscount Severn, already took over the role.

“[James is] rather good at flipping burgers and liked to get fully involved whenever there was a family barbecue at Balmoral. That used to be Prince Philip’s domain, but is less so these days,” a source told The Sun.

Last summer, it was also reported that James delighted Queen Elizabeth with his skill for fly-fishing.

“[James’] enthusiasm for fly-fishing delighted Her Majesty because it’s a sport beloved of James’ great-granny, the late Queen Mother. James was in the Dee as often as possible, waders up to his armpits. His mother Sophie, who is a keen fisherwoman herself, liked to stand with him. The Balmoral ghillies were impressed with both of them. Edward is not as keen because he’s not as patient, which you need to be when fishing for salmon, even in the plentiful Dee.”

James’ older sister, Lady Louise Windsor, was also praised for looking after her younger nephew and niece, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, while they were all vacationing in Balmoral.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip also made headlines this month after it was reported that he suffered from a bit of wobble while staying in Sandringham. The report led royal fans to think that the Duke of Edinburgh is quite ill these days.

“He has been living quietly at Sandringham, where he spends most of his time reading and pottering about. Until recently he has been very active — carriage riding, fishing at Balmoral and driving around royal estates — although he no longer drives on public roads following his crash in January. His mind is as sharp as ever,” a source told The Sun.
