Prince William and Kate Middleton were warned against repeating Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s mistake.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are taking more royal roles following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit. Last year, they visited Pakistan and the future king and queen are expected to visit more countries. However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned them ahead to not repeat the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s mistake.

“The royal tours are wonderful for projecting soft power. It’s important also to project goodwill,” Fitzwilliams said.

“What you don’t want is a repeat of what happened in 1997 when the Queen went to Pakistan and also India. The then Foreign Secretary Robin Cook offered Britain’s help in brokering a solution for Kashmir, or words to that effect. The Queen also visited Amritsar, where, in 1919, British troops gunned down 379 unarmed protesters.”

According to Fitzwilliams despite the requests for apology, the Queen did not do it. Prince Philip also worsened the matter when he commented that he thought the number of those killed had been exaggerated.

“All of this caused fury in India, and as you see, there’s a diplomatic minefield,” the expert added. “That royal tour did not go well so there is something to be learnt for the younger royals.”

Meanwhile, Fitzwilliams said that the Cambridges had a “very good year” in 2019 in contrast to some members of the royal family. He was also positive that Prince William and Middleton will continue to rise and will be doing more duties.

For instance, the Cambridge’s Pakistan tour was considered the most complex tour done by a royal family. Prince William’s trip to Israel was also deemed among the most sensitive trips. As for Middleton, the duchess talent in photography and interest in kids have been praised. In fact, she was called the “ Children’s Princess.”

In related news, a source said that Prince William and Middleton’s numerous works

brought them closer together. The source said that some might think that their “hectic schedule” would put a strain on their marriage, but it wasn’t the case.
