Prince Charles looked desperate while Prince William appeared confident on their respective wedding days.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s royal wedding was like a fairytale. The same can be said when Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot in 2011. However, there’s actually a stark contrast between the two grooms.

According to body language expert Judi James, Prince Charles was shy and unsure on his big day. The future king wanted to please the others.

“With his beautiful and very young bride on one side and his mother on the other, Charles looked like a man desperate to do the right thing although not totally in charge at his own wedding,” James said about the Prince of Wales. “He asked his mother if he could kiss his bride and this bashful and slightly bewildered smile suggested a man swept along by events.”

Meanwhile, James observed the opposite with Prince William on his wedding day. According to her, the second-in-line to the throne was confident and was in-charge on his big day.

“William on the other hand looked very much in charge at his own wedding,” James said about Middleton’s groom.

“He stands upright and confident here, with a wide, open-mouthed smile that suggests he is enjoying the day. Although younger than his father when he married, he looks very much the confident man to Charles’s diffident and anxious young boy. His touch gestures with Kate showed a synchronicity that reflected the fact that they had known one another for several years and had strong bonds of empathy as well as love.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage eventually ended in divorce. Some experts were not surprised because they already saw signs during the exes’ wedding that their marriage was doomed.

James said that Prince Charles’ “steepled brows” as he waited for his bride was an expression of “duty” and he looked like someone who was “quiet suffering.” Dr. Peter Collett said that he saw the signs in as early as Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s engagement. He stressed that when they announced their engagement, they were not in step and Prince Charles was not adapting his behavior to Princess Diana.
