Prince William, Prince Harry’s ‘Heartbreaking’ Reaction To Princess Diana, Charles’ Divorce Revealed
Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was a sad news for their royal fans, but it affected their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, the most.
Katie Nicholl, a royal correspondent for Vanity Fair, revealed that Princess Diana told her sons about her plan to divorce Prince Charles first before anyone else. In “William and Harry: Brothers In Arms,” it was reported that Prince Harry took the news much worse than Prince William.
“She made sure that the first people who found out that they were going to separate were William and Harry. She actually made the drive to Ludgrove school herself to go and tell them. Harry took it very badly, of course being younger than William, he was incredibly upset,” Nicholl said (via Express).
“William was pretty stoic and said to his mother, ‘Well, if you’re happier, if you’re going to be happier mommy, then this is the right thing to do,’” she added.
Prince William’s reaction didn’t come as a surprise to the late Princess of Wales because the mom of two opened up to her eldest son about her marital woes.
“It was William who would push tissues under the door to Diana while she was having a good sob in the bathroom,” Nicholl said.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated in 1992, but it was only in 1996 that their divorce was finalized. A final agreement between the ex-couple was reached just two months after Queen Elizabeth II told them to legally end their marriage.
Her Majesty was reportedly upset at Princess Diana for slamming the royal family during her 1995 interview with Panorama’s Martin Bashir. During their conversation, Princess Diana declared that there was three of them in her marriage to Prince Charles as a shade to Camilla Parker Bowles.
One year after Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce, the latter passed away in a fatal car crash in Paris. She was with her then-boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed, who also died following the accident.
