Prince William reportedly didn’t want to be king at one point in his life, and Prince Harry was willing to take over, according to a source.

Jeremy Paxman claimed in his new documentary, “Queen’s Children,” on Channel 5 that the Duke of Cambridge once said that he had no interest in taking over the monarchy, but his younger brother, Prince Harry, was willing to take his place as king. Paxman claimed to have learned this information straight from their mom, Princess Diana.

Paxman recalled that years before the Princess of Wales died, Princess Diana secretly called him and asked if they could have lunch together. The broadcaster confessed that he had no idea about their meeting.

“We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it!’” Paxman recalled.

Paxman added that Princess Diana looked “pretty lonely.”

Prince William had been brought up to be the future king, and Prince Harry had always known it. Ken Wharfe, Princess Diana's former bodyguard, previously said that when they were kids, Prince Harry made a declaration about their future during a car ride with their mother and their nanny. Harry reportedly said that it was fine if he would not be a king because that would mean that he could do anything he wanted.

Prince William reportedly "gleefully liked" the acknowledgment from his younger brother. Wharfe admitted that he found the royal princes’ conversation funny.

Prince William and Prince Harry have been working together for years with Kate Middleton as patrons of the Royal Foundation. However, their arrangement changed when Meghan Markle came into the picture. According to a report, the Duchess of Sussex created resentment between Prince Harry, Prince William and Middleton. Markle reportedly drove a wedge into the royal trio.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly didn’t like Prince Harry’s changes when he started dating Markle. Prince William and Middleton apparently didn’t think that Prince Harry changed for the better.
