Prince William Reveals Most Difficult Part Of Being A First Responder
Prince William admitted that being a first responder is not easy.
On Tuesday, the Duke of Cambridge, a former air ambulance pilot spoke up candidly about his experience as a first responder. According to Prince William, it was not easy because he couldn't help but absorb the pain and suffering he witnessed.
"I took a lot home without realizing it," Prince William said (via People). "You see [so] many sad things every day that you think life is like that."
"You're always dealing with despair and sadness and injury. The attrition builds up and you never really have the opportunity to offload anything if you’re not careful," Kate Middleton's husband added.
The duke also addressed this particular toll on first responders and encouraged them to speak up. Prince William was stunned after learning that only two percent feel comfortable in talking about mental health in their workplace.
"You're human and a lot of people forget the battles, you have shut it off to do the job — but ultimately something pierces the armor," he said.
Paramedic Dawn Anderson, 45, was diagnosed with PTSD. She shared her struggles with the prince and admitted that Prince William sharing his own struggles give them encouragement to speak up, too.
"I've always held the belief that everybody is susceptible to mental health problems, and I wouldn’t expect even a member of the royal family to be exempt from that," she said. "To hear him admit that just goes to prove how good it is to speak about these things and how positive that can be. And it goes towards removing hat stigma about mental health and to speaking up to and owning up to it."
In related news, Camilla Parker Bowles reportedly wanted Prince William to split with Middleton. The Duchess of Cornwall reportedly found Middleton too lowly to marry a royal. When the two eventually broke up, Camilla considered it a wise choice. Prince William and Middleton just got back together after a few months.
According to Christopher Andersen in his book "Game of Crowns: Elizabeth, Camilla, Kate and the Throne," Camilla was jealous of Middleton because the public was very warm to her. She was threatened by Middleton because the majority prefers her to be the next queen compared to her.
