  • Princess Anne and Prince Philip share an uncanny resemblance on her magazine cover

Princess Anne remained relaxed on the day her son Peter Phillips and Autumn announced their divorce.

Earlier this year, the royal family announced Peter and Autumn’s divorce. Many were surprised, but according to the spokesperson, the members of the royal family were aware of it because the exes had been discussing it for months.

According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, she was with the Princess Royal when Peter and Autumn announced their split, so she was expecting a potential “awkwardness or discomfort.” However, in contrast, she was surprised to see Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s only daughter appearing so relaxed and in good spirits.

“A tabloid newspaper splashed the story of the impending divorce on its front page that morning, and I have been warned in advance by the press officer that the princess won’t discuss the separation,” Nicholl wrote for Vanity Fair.

“We had a little conversation about it in the car, but she just rises above it,” Princess Anne’s lady-in-waiting told Nicholl.

Princess Anne has a prickly relationship with the press. Last year, she made headlines after she was caught on camera seemingly snubbing U.S. President Donald Trump during the NATO leaders reception at Buckingham Palace. Prince Charles’ sister was initially not aware of the commotion on social media because she’s not on Twitter.

Princess Anne saw a clip of her with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. News outlets alleged that they were laughing at Trump and his lengthy conference that day. She was reportedly not pleased when she learned about it.

“The princess was unhappy to be dragged into that particular story because she has always been careful not to be seen to be political in any way,” a source said. “She is also incredibly respectful, so any suggestion that she would laugh at anyone behind their backs was quite upsetting for her.”

Prince Charles and Princess Anne have a “combustible” relationship. The Prince of Wales also disapproved of her younger sister’s public outbursts and rage against the media because he found it “counter-productive.”

Princess Anne seemed to inherit her looks and temper from her father, Prince Philip. The Princess Royal and Duke of Edinburgh shared an uncanny resemblance on her magazine cover. Both of them also hate the press.
