Princess Anne’s Troubles Often Of Her ‘Own Making’: ‘Rude, Sulky, Difficult’
Princess Anne’s troubles were often of her own making.
Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter often found herself in trouble due to her behavior. Princess Anne was regarded “surly and impolite” in her younger years. She also found herself in hot water several times according to the 2002 Channel 4 documentary “The Real Princess Anne” while citing her numerous speeding offenses and criminal record after her dog bit someone.
“The Princess Royal is often in trouble. Unlike the kidnap attempt, it’s usually trouble of her own making,” the documentary said.
“She has been accused of being rude, sulky and difficult. She was also the first of the Queen’s children to be divorced. At one time, she looked like the royal least likely to succeed.”
When the royal family was engulfed with problems, the Princess Royal remained “unencumbered and untainted.” Joy Billington, a journalist in Washington D.C., shared Princess Anne’s ill behavior towards the press.
“She was very bad-tempered, very sulky, she really didn’t want to be there, that was the impression one had,” she recalled.
Helen Thomas, a respected journalist, reportedly asked Princess Anne about the Washington Monument. The royal could have answered in two simple words and said “very tall.” However, she instead told Thomas, “I don’t do interviews.”
Princess Anne is not close to Prince Charles, too, due to their differences. The royal siblings reportedly have a “combustible” relationship.
The future king is “meek” and “defensive.” Meanwhile, the Princess Royal is “stubborn” and “strong-willed.” They also have different interests and set of friends, so they had grown apart.
The heir apparent reportedly “groaned” at Princess Anne’s public outbursts and rage towards the press photographers. One time, Princess Anne had a confrontation with anti-blood sports protestors when she was about to go fox hunting which disappointed Prince Charles who noted that it’s a “royal sin” for the members of the Firm to fall into a confrontational situation with the public.
Also, Queen Elizabeth II struggled with Princess Anne bullying Prince Charles. One time, the Queen saw the Prince of Wales in tears after Princess Anne set about her older brother. In exasperation, the monarch shouted at them: “Why can’t you behave yourselves!” Princess Anne later admitted that she and Prince Charles “fought like cats and dogs.”
