Princess Diana Created ‘Lip-Smacking’ First Impression During Royal Tours This Way
Princess Diana was reportedly determined to be the best dressed Princess of Wales in history, according to a royal author.
In her book “The Royals,” Kitty Kelley said that the late Princess of Wales went to great lengths in order to stand out during her royal tours. In 1983, she and Prince Charles went to Australia for their overseas engagement.
“Diana knew that style was the first priority of a Princess… She would show substance beneath the surface later, right now all she cared about was creating a lip-smacking first impression,” she said.
In order to make sure that she would look her best, Princess Diana consulted with fashion editors and designers. She let them know that she wanted to bring style and glamour to her role while distancing herself from the rest of the Windsor women who typically wore garden party hats, sturdy platform shoes, and white purses.
Several years later, Princess Diana once again became the talk of the town when she went on a royal tour with Prince Charles to India in 1992. However, the mom of two made headlines at that time because it became evident that she and Prince Charles were not on good terms.
In fact, just months after their tour of India, the royal couple announced their decision to go their separate ways. Three years after their separation, Princess Diana sat down for a controversial interview with Panorama where the late royal told Martin Bashir that there were three of them in her marriage.
Princess Diana also told Bashir that she didn’t think Prince Charles was suited for his future role as King. The interview reportedly angered Queen Elizabeth II that’s why she encouraged Prince Charles and Princess Diana to finalize their divorce months later.
One year after their divorce, Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris while traveling with her boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed. The latter died as well.
