Princess Diana Did This ‘Sneaky But Genius’ Trick On Prince Charles Post-Split
Princess Diana reportedly did a sneaky but genius thing to Prince Charles’ clothes after their split.
Josie Griffiths, a journalist for The Sun, revealed that Princess Diana gave Prince Charles a hard time to collect his clothes after they separated in 1992. Sally Bedell Smith, the author of “Charles: The Misunderstood Prince,” claimed that Prince Charles asked his valet for 10 years, Michael Fawcett, to get his things from his ex-wife.
“Diana loathed Fawcett, whom she regarded as an overbearing bully to those below him and a sycophantic lackey to Charles and Camilla. After Charles broke his right arm, Fawcett dutifully squeezed his toothpaste onto the royal toothbrush – a gesture quickly incorporated into Prince Charles lore as an everyday routine. When Charles dispatched Fawcett to collect his belongings at Kensington Palace following the separation, Diana ordered the locks changed,” Smith wrote.
This made it impossible for Fawcett and Prince Charles to get into the house if Princess Diana wasn’t around. Prince Charles moved two miles down the road to York House, a five-bedroom wing on the north side of St. James’ Palace and on the other side of Hyde Park and Green Park.
The future king and Princess Diana separated 11 years after they tied the knot, but their divorce was only finalized in 1996 after Queen Elizabeth II urged them to push through with it. A year before their divorce, Princess Diana spoke with Martin Bashir about the struggles she faced as a member of the royal family.
During her Panorama interview, Princess Diana also declared that there was three of them in her marriage, and the shade was made in reference to Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ affair.
One year after their divorce, Princess Diana was already dating Dodi Al Fayed, when she passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris. Fayed also died in the accident.
