Princess Diana ‘Hit It Off’ With Richard Gere, Making Sylvester Stallone ‘Furious’
Princess Diana was quite friendly towards men, especially actors when she was still alive. In fact, she attracted the attention of Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone decades ago.
In the book “Elton John Official Autobiography,” the famed singer Elton John recounted an incident that took place at the party that he and his husband, David Furnish, hosted. Gere and Stallone were invited to the gathering alongside the Princess of Wales.
According to John, Princess Diana and Gere hit it off immediately. And upon learning this, Stallone reportedly became furious. The “Candle In the Wind” crooner said that he thinks Stallone turned up to his party with the purpose of trying to pick up Princess Diana.
“Eventually, dinner was served. We moved into the dining room and seated ourselves at the table. Or at least, most of us did. There was no sign of Richard Gere or indeed Sylvester Stallone. I asked David to go and find them. He came back with both of them, but he was wearing a fairly ashen expression,” John said.
Furnish told his husband that they have a bit of a situation at the party. John’s husband saw the two leading men in the corridor, squaring up to each other. Gere and Stallone wanted to settle their differences over Princess Diana by engaging in a fist-fight.
“He'd managed to calm things down by pretending he hadn't noticed what was going on — 'Hey, guys! Time for dinner!' — but Sylvester clearly still wasn't happy,” John said.
Meanwhile, Gere and Stallone weren’t the only two leading men who were interested in Prince Charles’ ex-wife. Decades ago, Kevin Costner was supposed to star in the “Bodyguard” movie sequel with the late royal.
While speaking with People, Costner revealed that he received the script for the movie just before the mom of two passed away. “Bodyguard 2” was supposed to revolve around Costner’s character protecting Princess Diana’s character from the paparazzi.
Unfortunately, the project didn’t push through because Princess Diana passed away.
