Much has been speculated about how Princess Diana would have loved the women her sons went on to marry, but a documentary about her life may have revealed that the late royal could have found a reason to be a little jealous of Kate Middleton, because the Duchess of Cambridge has something her mother-in-law desperately wanted but never got to have.

The documentary, a 2017 Amazon Prime special called “The Diana Story,” saw former royal butler Paul Burrell revealing that Princes William and Harry’s mother had always wanted a daughter for herself.

“Diana always wanted a girl,” Burrell said (via Express UK). “To have another baby girl in the family would have made everything for Diana.”

However, while some jealousy that Middleton went on to have a daughter, whose full name pays tribute to her late grandmother, may have existed, Burrell insisted that the real tragedy was that Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, never got the chance to know her grandkids at all, especially Princess Charlotte.

“She was robbed of the opportunity of loving her grandchildren—especially Charlotte,” he said. “She would have loved Kate, too.”

As of now, despite speculation that the Duchess of Cambridge could welcome a fourth child, she has not confirmed any potential pregnancies. Her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is welcoming a child in the next few months, however. While she and Prince Harry have not confirmed their child’s sex, bookmakers are reporting that if they are having a girl, Diana is the most backed name for their child.
