Princess Diana Said She ‘Couldn’t’ Do This One Thing After Prince Charles Divorce
Life as a royal wasn’t easy for her, but even after she was officially no longer Prince Charles’ wife, Princess Diana was reportedly haunted by her former existence, and more specifically, the bad way her marriage ended.
In an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR (via Express UK), Australian designer Jayson Brundson revealed how an interaction with the Princess after her divorce revealed that she could no longer wear certain items of clothing because she was linking them to her husband and the fact that he had an affair during their marriage with his former girlfriend, Camilla Parker Bowles. .
While meeting with her to help style her for a hospital charity event in Australia a year before her death, the Princess revealed to him that she was no longer able to bring herself to wear any of her shoes by Chanel, because the “CC” logo in her mind stood for Charles and Camilla.
“She went back to her bedroom and she came out holding like handfuls of shoes and bags and just dumped them all down on the couch,” he recalled. “Then Said, ‘what do you think?’ So I went through them all and I found a pair of Chanel shoes, and I said, ‘Well these would look great with the Versace’ and she said, ‘No, I can’t wear linked Cs, the double C.’”
He went on to reveal that when he inquired about her reason, she explained that it stood for “Camilla and Charles.”
The couple’s marriage was famously strained and contentious due to his affair, and it has since been revealed that both even had doubts about the relationship before their wedding, with Prince Charles reportedly expressing concerns just hours before the ceremony about the fact that his bride was only 19 years old at the time, before admitting he needed to go through with the marriage because of his duties as a future King.
“Prince Charles kept saying ‘I want to do right by my country. I want to do the right thing by my family,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward wrote in the book “Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding.” “In his heart, I think he knew that they just had nothing in common.”
