Princess Diana indirectly revealed that she didn’t want to have anything to do with Prince Charles while they were in India years ago. At that time, the late royal visited the Taj Mahal by himself.

In the BBC documentary “Images of Diana,” royal author Andrew Morton talked about the heir to the throne’s decision to skip his trip to the Taj Mahal with the Princess of Wales. Morton said that this was surprising because after visiting the beautiful location, Prince Charles promised to return with his bride.

Instead of posing outside the Taj Mahal, Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s photo at the former’s polo match was the one that made headlines. In the snap, the mom of two presented her then-husband with his prize, and she purposely missed Prince Charles’ kiss.

“He ends up kissing her on her earring or something, it’s a very ugly looking picture. And that’s something that she controlled herself. That was a real show that ‘I don’t want anything to do with you,’” Morton said.

It was, later on, revealed that Prince Charles skipped the Taj Mahal because of his business engagement in Bangalore. But royal photographer Arthur Edwards revealed that the future King already planned on skipping the outing with Princess Diana two weeks before their trip to India.

Fellow photographer Jayne Fincher also said that she and the other photographers were asked to choose between photographing Prince Charles at his business meeting or Princess Diana outside the Taj Mahal. The majority of them opted to take photos of the late royal.

“As photographers, there was no way we were going to photograph the Prince of Wales, however worthy it might have been, in a suit with a lot of other men in suits, when Diana’s at the Taj Mahal! We certainly weren’t going to miss it,” she said.

After Princess Diana’s photos were released, the mom of two was dubbed as a lonely royal during her trip. But Fincher said that this wasn’t the case. After all, Princess Diana was surrounded by a lot of people at that time.
