Princess Diana Thought Prince Harry Would Be ‘Good King,’ Not Prince William
Princess Diana’s shocking views regarding the royal succession have just been revealed.
Ken Wharfe, Princess Diana’s former bodyguard, appeared on Robert Jobson’s podcast and said that when the Princess of Wales was still alive, she referred to her youngest son as “Good King Harry.”
“This was because he would always raise this question of his brother Prince William becoming King. Many, including Diana, thought that Harry – given his predilection to being quite robust and good at taking orders would have made a good king himself,” he said (via Express).
Earlier this year, book author Angela Levin said in “Harry: Conversations With the Prince” that Princess Diana was less confident in Prince William becoming the future king.
“Harry’s seeming ability to cope, his ease with people and general gusto led Diana to believe that he would handle being king more easily than William. She even called him Good King Harry. Diana felt less confident in William,” she said.
Levin also said that Prince William never wanted to be king since he was a young boy.
“William doesn’t want to be king and I worry about that. He doesn’t want his every move watched. In fact, the boys were damaged but handled the breakups in different ways,” she said.
Prince Harry has also reportedly considered what his life would be like if he was to be the King.
“People would be amazed by the ordinary life William and I live. I do my own shopping. Sometimes when I come away from the meat counter in my local supermarket, I worry someone will snap me with their phone… Even if I was king, I would do my own shopping,” he said (via Daily Star).
In related news, 35 percent of Britons want Prince William to succeed Queen Elizabeth II after the monarch resigns or dies. However, Prince William is only second in line to the throne, and his dad, Prince Charles, would have to be King first before him.
In “Charles, Prince of Wales,” Gill Knappett, said that Prince William doesn’t want to take over the throne anytime soon.
