Princess Diana Was ‘Snubbed,’ ‘Not Really Accepted’ By Royal Family
She’s often regarded as one of the most influential members of the royal family, despite her divorce from Prince Charles and death in 1997. However, during her life, Princess Diana allegedly ruffled too many feathers and wasn’t actually accepted by many senior members of the royal family, including the Queen Mother, Elizabeth I.
In an Amazon documentary, “The Diana Story,” her former butler, Paul Burrell revealed that overall, Princess Diana wasn’t really given a whole lot of consideration to begin with, and the Queen Mother in particular never really hid her disdain for her grandson’s wife.
“The rest of the royal family and the royal household, they treated Diana as if she were just another ‘gel.’ In fact, they didn’t give her much consideration at all,” he said at the time.
According to Express UK, the Queen Mother and Princess Diana always had a tense relationship and following her death in 1997, Diana’s name was allegedly not allowed to be spoken in the presence of her former foe. However, while Diana was still alive, Burrell, recalled a particular incident where he felt that the lack of respect for Diana really came out.
“I did notice that one day, going through the drawing room, the old Queen Mother, she passed the magazine table, and Diana’s face was on the front of Hello! Magazine,” he said. “And as she walked past the table, she flipped the magazine over onto its backside and carried on walking.”
“That to me said, she’s not really accepted. They don’t like it,” he added. “She’s beginning to out-shine even the senior members of the royal family, which is dangerous territory.”
However, though she may not have been well-liked by older members of the family, Diana’s memory still lives on and is very present in the lives of her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
