Princess Diana’s ‘Revenge Dress’ Dubbed ‘Too Revealing,’ Auctioned For This Much Money
Princess Diana’s so-called “revenge dress” was auctioned to the public for a hefty sum of money.
The late Princess of Wales wore the stunning attire at the Serpentine Gallery in 1994. Around this time, Princess Diana was already involved in a ton of controversies regarding her separation from Prince Charles two years earlier.
According to Glamour, Christina Stambolian’s creation was auctioned for $74,000 after Princess Diana passed away. Details about where the revenge dress is now are still being kept under wraps.
The mom of two stunned in the dress that featured an off-the-shoulder sleeve. She wore it on the same day that Prince Charles indirectly confirmed that he had an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
Kerry Taylor, who auctioned off 10 of the most recognizable Princess Diana dresses in 2013, told Woman Magazine UK said that Princess Diana refused to hide in her room following Prince Charles’ admission and instead she made sure to look drop-dead gorgeous in public.
Until today, Princess Diana’s real intentions for wearing the revenge dress remain to be unclear. But according to Reader’s Digest, Prince Charles’ ex-wife was supposed to wear something else at the event. Princess Diana’s Valentino dress was already released to the press ahead of the gathering, but she made a last-minute switch.
Despite the dress being called too skimpy and revealing, Anna Harvey, Princess Diana’s former stylist, said that the late princess simply wanted to look like a million dollars.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ divorce was finalized two years after her public appearance in her revenge dress. One year earlier, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom sat down for an interview with Martin Bashir for Panorama where she exposed Prince Charles’ infidelity.
The late princess declared that her marriage felt a little bit too crowded because there were three of them at that time. One year after Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce, the latter passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris.
