Princess Diana was so concerned about Prince Charles' feelings for Camilla Parker Bowles.

Princess Diana was consumed by jealousy weeks before her wedding that she lost weight dramatically. In fact, her waistline shrank to 23 inches just weeks before her wedding to Prince Charles.

According to Sally Bedell Smith in her book "Charles: The Misunderstood Prince," Princess Diana was only 19 when she married Prince Charles and she lost nearly 14. pounds in the run-up of her big day.

Months before Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding, the former left for a tour abroad. When the Prince of Wales returned, his wife-to-be looked "alarmingly thin." The couple had been in contact while the royal was away, but Princess Diana reportedly felt "intimidated" and "isolated."

"Back at Buckingham Palace, [Diana] was in bad shape: anxious, depressed and volatile," Smith wrote (as quoted by The Sun). "She felt claustrophobic, intimidated and isolated. Behind closed doors, she was suffering from bulimia, the secret binge eating and self-induced vomiting that had afflicted her before in times of great stress"

"She looked alarmingly thin," Smith added. "Having lost nearly fourteen pounds, she had shed all traces of the 'puppy fat.' Her waistline had contracted from twenty-nine to twenty-three inches, causing her wedding dress to be taken in several times."

Princess Diana was photographed sobbing when Prince Charles was about to depart for the said trip. However, the People's Princess revealed in an interview that she admitted that was not crying because she would be separated from Prince Charles, but she was hurt because Camilla called that day and she wanted to be nice, so she left them talking on the phone.

In the same book, Smith revealed that the two were not as excited as the other couples in the run-up of their wedding. Although they looked cheerful in public when they were together, they were reportedly so different behind closed doors.

In fact, Princess Diana had acute episodes of bulimic attack. The people around her were not aware of her condition. At that time, the bride-to-be was "sick as parrot." In another event, she sobbed inside the car.

On the other hand, Prince Charles was at a contemplative mood. The Prince of Wales even cried on the night before he tied the knot with Princess Diana.

"He did not share the exuberance on display outside the Palace," the book read. "Rather, he was in a contemplative mood. As he listened to the choruses of Rule Britannia, Charles found himself weeping."
